Dunhuang Museum is a three-storey museum located in Dunhuang City. It was set up in 1979 and the construction covers an area of 2400 square meters. As a comprehensive local museum, Dunhuang Museum exhibits the historical relics, folk arts local human and geographic features, and natural resources.

    How to Get to Dunhuang Museum

    The museum is conveniently located in Dunhuang’s city center. The easiest way to reach it is by public bus. You can take Bus No. 3 and get off at the “Museum Stop” (博物馆站).

    Alternatively, you can also take a pleasant 20-30 minute walk from the city center to the museum.

    Visiting Tips

  • The best Time to visit is around 9:30 AM. At this time, you will enjoy the exhibits with fewer crowds.
  • Besides, you can only take photos without flash. This is generally permitted in most galleries. However, be mindful of signs indicating areas where flash is prohibited to protect the delicate pigments of replicas and artifacts.
  • Although tickets are free, you can spend CNY 25 to rent an audio guide, which allows you to gain a deeper understanding of the stories behind each archaeological artifact.
