Overview

A journey to the west of China starting from Chongqing, head to Chengdu for cute pandas and historical sites in and out the city, we will further into Lhasa for the charming Tibetan cultural and Buddhism architectures on the Tibetan plateau, transfer to Gansu for visiting Lanzhou, Dunhuang and Jiayuguan and ends in Xi’an, all are the sparkling pearls along the ancient silk road.

Day 1 Arrival in Chongqing

Arrival in Chongqing, transfer to the hotel.

Day 2 Visit the Three Gorges Museum, Buddhist Grottoes

Visit the Three Gorges Museum, then drive to Dazu to see the Buddhist Grottoes.

Day 3 Visit Jinsha Site Museum, have some tea at People’s Park

Take a speed train to Chengdu (2 hours), and transfer to visit Jinsha Site Museum and have some tea at People’s Park.

Day 4 Visit Panda Breeding and Research Center, Wenshu Temple

Visit Panda Breeding and Research Center, Wenshu Temple. Transfer to the airport and fly to Lhasa.

Day 5 Visit Potala Palace, Sera Monastery

Excursion to the Potala Palace in the morning, after lunch, go to the Sera Monastery to see the Monk debating.

Day 6 Visit Drak Yerpa, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street

Drive to visit Drak Yerpa, a monastery together with a number of ancient meditation caves that used to house about 300 monks. In the afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street.

Day 7 Visit Yamdrok Lake, Palkor Monastery

Drive to Shigatse. En route, visit Yamdrok Lake, a beautiful highland lake. Then proceed to Gyantse town and visit Palkor Monastery. Later in the afternoon, arrive in Shigatse.

Day 8 Visit Tashilumpo Monastery, Yarlung Tsangpo River

Visit the famous Tashilumpo Monastery, the seat of successive Panchen Lamas. Then drive back to Lhasa, enjoying the stunning landscape along Yarlung Tsangpo River (Yalu Zangbu River).

Day 9 Take train to Lanzhou

Transfer to board the train to Lanzhou (26 hours).

Day 10 Visit Bingling Temple

Arrive in Lanzhou, and transfer to the hotel. One full day trip to Bingling Temple to see the Buddhist grottoes carved on the cliff. Dive back to Lanzhou.

Day 11 Visit White Pagoda Hill, Iron Bridge of Yellow River, Gansu Provincial Museum

After breakfast, you will be transferred to visit White Pagoda Hill, Iron Bridge of Yellow River and Gansu Provincial Museum. Then transfer to the airport and fly to Dunhuang.

Day 12 Visit Mingsha Sand Dunes, Mogao Caves

Transfer to visit Mingsha Sand Dunes, and ride a camel to the Crescent Lake. After lunch, explore Mogao Caves, one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in China.

Day 13 Visit the ancient Jiayuguan Fortress and Overhanging Great Wall

Take an express bus or private transfer to Jiayuguan (4 hours). Be met and transferred to the hotel. Visit the ancient Jiayuguan Fortress and Overhanging Great Wall.

Day 14 Visit Jiayuguan Museum

After a visit to Jiayuguan Museum, transfer to the airport and fly to Xian. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 15 Visit Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses, the Bell Tower, old city quarters

Visit the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses, the Bell Tower and stroll at the old city quarters. Complete the day with the Dumpling dinner and the Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 16 Xi'an departure

Visit Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Xian Museum. Transfer to the airport and fly to the next destination.
