Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Datong

Arrival in Datong by train or bus in the evening, be picked up and transferred to the hotel.

Day 2 Visit Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple of Liao, etc.

Visit the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site – Yungang Grottoes. Then proceed to ancient Huayan Temple of Liao and Jin Dynasty and Nine Dragon Screen.

Day 3 Visit Hanging Temple, Wooden Pagoda at Ying County

Drive to visit Hanging Temple, Wooden Pagoda at Ying County, which is the oldest existent fully wooden pagoda still standing in China, first built in 1056. Overnight at Wutaishan city.

Day 4 Visit Mount Wutai, Xiantong Temple, Pusading Temple and Tayuan Temple

Half day tour to Mount Wutai, one of the four holy mountains for Buddhists in China, you will tour the Xiantong Temple, Pusading Temple and Tayuan Temple. After lunch, drive 4 hours to Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province.

Day 5 Visit Jinci Temple, Dayun Temple

After breakfast, transfer to visit Jinci Temple, which was founded about 1,400 years ago, boasting a diverse collection of more than 100 sculptures, buildings, terraces, and bridges. Then proceed to Changzhi city (3 hours) in the afternoon. En route visit Dayun Temple at Qin County.

Day 6 Visit Jindeng Temple, Longmen Temple

After breakfast, transfer to visit Jindeng Temple, which is famous for the Buddhist grottoes art. Then proceed to visit Longmen Temple, which was first built in Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577 BC), and it is home to architectures from Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty.

Day 7 Visit Kaihua Temple, Yuhuang Taoist Temple

Drive from Changzhi to Jincheng. Visit Kaihua Temple, which is well-known for the exquisite frescoes painted in the North Song Dynasty. In the afternoon, explore the Yuhuang Taoist Temple, the 28 statues of Gods of Constellations built in Yuan Dynasty are the highlight in this temple.

Day 8 Visit Fencheng ancient architectural complex, Guangsheng Temple, Ming Dynasty Jail

Drive about 4 hours from Jincheng to Linfen. On the way, visit Fencheng ancient architectural complex. After arrival in Linfen, visit Guangsheng Temple and Ming Dynasty Jail.

Day 9 Visit Wang Family compound

Drive about 3 hours to Pingyao, which was listed as UNESCO Cultural Heritage site in 1997. Visit Wang Family compound on the way, it is also nicknames as “Civilian Forbidden City” in North China.

Day 10 Explore the old town of Pingyao

Explore the old town of Pingyao escorted by your guide, including the visits to the city wall, Rishengchang Draft Bank and Ming and Qing Street. Free time at the rest of the day.

Day 11 Pingyao - Taiyuan departure

Transfer to the airport and board flight to next destination.
