Located on the west banks of the Huangpu River in Xuhui District, Shanghai's West Bund boasts an 11.4-kilometer-long waterfront and is a high-quality central activity zone in "Shanghai 2035" urban master plan, embodying core global city functions. Leveraging the opportunity presented by the 2008 Shanghai World Expo, and benchmarking against Paris's Left Bank and London's South Bank, it has been transformed from an industrial production-oriented waterfront to a residential-oriented one.
The West Bund is even better known as Shanghai’s creative art district and famous for the riverside lifestyle. When you travel in Shanghai, make time to visit the West Bund. You will see Shanghai's waterfront promenade and, more importantly, enter the Long Museum, Yuz Museum, West Bund Art Museum, and other museums of the West Bund to immerse yourself in amazing art scenes.

What is West Bund in Shanghai - Brief Introduction
Emphasizing the integration of ecology, culture, and technology, and designed with the concept of "Shanghai CORNICHE," the West Bund features a scenic boulevard offering driving views of the river and world-class waterfront open spaces ideal for city walks or cycling.
Along the river, over 20 cultural and artistic spaces, including the Long Museum, Yuz Museum, West Bund Dome Art Center, West Bund Art Museum, West Bund Art & Design, Star Museum, Tank Shanghai, and the West Bund Theater Complex, create Asia's largest art district. In recent years, the commercial development of Shanghai's West Bund has also been booming. First, AI PLAZA and the Orbit public art building in the West Bund Financial City amazed the world, followed by the entry of GATE M West Bund Dream Center and Station 1907, non-standard commercial spaces.
Shanghai's West Bund is also accelerating the construction of a new highland for the artificial intelligence industry (AI): successfully hosting the 2018 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which brought together industry giants such as Microsoft Research Asia, CCTV, Tencent, Alibaba, NetEase, Xiaomi, Huawei, and United Imaging.

The Long Museum was founded by the well-known Chinese collectors Liu Yiqian and Wang Wei. It is a private art museum and currently has three large-scale venues in Shanghai and Chongqing - Long Museum (Pudong Branch), Long Museum (West Bund Branch), and Long Museum (Chongqing Branch).
The West Bund Branch was formerly the loading dock and coal storage area of Shanghai Cement Factory. The main building now features a unique "umbrella arch" structure and is divided into four floors. When you enter the museum, the first thing that catches your eye are those rough concrete columns and the mottled trusses.

Originally the pre-mixing storage facility of the Shanghai Cement Factory with a history of over a hundred years, it witnessed the development of modern industry in Shanghai. Now it has transformed into a fashionable art landmark. The roof is covered with a new semi-transparent polycarbonate material. During the day, through the semi-transparent roof panels, the original orange-colored retained structure can be seen; at night, it resembles a lantern, emitting a hazy light.
So far, the West Bund Dome Art Center, which can accommodate 2,500 people, has hosted a series of large-scale events such as the 2023 SUSAS Shanghai Urban Space Art Festival Opening Ceremony, the new immersive art event "Integration", and Fanji's "Gifts for Bad Kids Festival Theme Market".
GATE M West Bund Dream Center
The GATE M West Bund Dream Center was formerly the Longhua Cement Factory established in 1920. In 1955, it was renamed Shanghai Cement Factory. The industrial building structures such as the pre-homogenization storage tanks and silos were preserved, forming five functional zones including the performing arts cultural area and the sustainable fashion area. On December 2025, the first exhibition of Pop Mart Crybaby opened at the West Bund Dream Center.
